Add DesktopNames=CDE to cde.desktop 

Suggestion from Giacomo Comes <comes@naic.edu>:

    In this way, after a login, the desktop manager will set the
    environment variables: XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP
